Writing Strategies for UC Essays and Case Analyses

加州大学的10 个分校分别为加州大学伯克利分校，加州大学洛杉矶分校，加州大学圣地亚哥分校加州大学欧文分校，加州大学圣塔芭芭拉分校，加州大学戴维斯分校，加州大学圣塔克鲁兹分校，加州大学河滨分校，加州大学默塞德分校及加州大学旧金山分校。其中加州大学旧金山分校为医学院没有大学部， 没有收本科生只有收研究生。加州大学系统是一个单独的申请系统，不采用常用的 Common 申请系统。每年的截止日期为11月30日，没有ED/EA/RD 之分。2016年加州文书进行了大变革，从原来两道必选题改成了八选四的题目，并要求每道题写不超过 350 字的文书。

(一)Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time.

题目分析:描述一个你的领导力方面的经历。可以是你正面影响了他人、帮助解决争端或者是为团队贡献力量等。

题目翻译:领导力角色对于申请人来说不仅仅意味着一个头衔。它可以是成为别人的导师，或是某一特定任务的负责人，又或者是在某场活动或者项目的组织活动中担任领导职位。申请人应当仔细想想自己取得了哪些成果，在这些活动经历之中学到了什么，此外在活动中还承担了哪些职责?在课外活动中你是否领导了一个团队?你的活动经历是否改变了你对于如何领导他人的观念?你领导的活动是否解决了学校、社区或者你所在的组织中的一项重大矛盾或问题?此外，你的领导角色并不一定需要局限于学校的课外活动中。比如，你是否帮助照顾好了自己的家人或者解决家庭、社区矛盾等?这些经历都可以成为你创作该题目文书的素材和思路，重要的是写出属于你自己的个人经历。

【案例】

With the Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy held tightly in the hands of Tim Duncan, the San Antonio Spurs took the crown in the NBA Finals in 2014. In the same year, our basketball team clinched the second place in our school. As the captain, I ascribe this record-breaking success to the collective efforts of all the teammates.

Several boys with the same interest in basketball gathering together to play basketball during the breaks gave birth to the establishment of the basketball team in our class. As I was relatively better at playing basketball,I was selected as the captain of the team. Honestly speaking, we were slack n training, spent little time studying the tactics and even had no intention to participate in matches in the beginning. Working as the captain, I felt obliged to change the situation. Knowing that attitude was of great importance, I decided to first boost the morale of our teammates to engage them in working for a higher aim. I shared my favorite movie, Coach Carter, with hem and said that we could also quickly grow into a crack force as long as we gave it our best shot. Then I consulted many references to make a specific plan for training that targeted the weakness of every member, which included physical training, dribbling and shooting practices and cooperation skills. Finally, I organized my teammates to watch the matches of the San Antonio Spurs and simulated its tactics, gradually changing our tactics from depending on certain people to working collectively with everyone adequately engaged. All these attempts proved effective and our performances in the subsequent trainings became better and better.

Our efforts paid off at the school-wide basketball league matches. We gained uninterrupted successes in the knockouts and lost the final to the best team at our school by only two points in the final.Through sparking the enthusiasm of all my teammates and maximizing their potentials, I managed to facilitate the growth of our team. I believe that the true leadership lies not in personal success but in the triumph of the whole team.

案例分析:领导力既是一种能力也是一种智慧。本文讲述的是一个篮球队队长如何带领他的队友获得该队史上较好成绩的故事。作为篮球队长，在带领队员准备篮球比赛的过程中，他注重队友态度的改变、士气的提高以及球技的进步。学生的智慧和领导力在整个过程中得到了充分的体现。同时，较终比赛的好成绩又让学生对领导力有了全新的理解和认识。
